I watched it again a little a while ago. Had net really been a jalop when it came out, holy shit that movie was made by a bunch of car guys, so many little Easter eggs and shit. Like, a big plot point has to do with a safety car affecting the outcome of a race.

That movie brings back good memories for me. It came out during a time when everything in my life was perfect. I went to the theater with my dad to watch that movie and it was the greatest movie-going experience I ever had.

Yes. Yes. This is good FWD.

If you can thrash them down one of the best driving roads in the country, go for a swim at a beautiful beach then thrash them all the way back up, they are fantastic. FWD, RWD or 4WD. Bonus points for having 2 cars with identical chassis’ and engines.

Sorry. That's a concept car. Anyone can make a fantastic concept car. That's kind of the point.

(OK, that last one was horrible in almost every way. But I’ve driven them, and Jesus fucking fuck are they fast in a straight(ish) line. Ridiculously quick but laughably bad = fantastic)
![]() 10/10/2015 at 00:02 |

I could have sworn that the Beat was FWD... I’ll have to remember to fact-check my comments more often from now on.
More cars for the list:

People in the market for a large luxury sedan don’t know what FWD is. In fact, they don’t care what wheels are being driven. But if they did care, they’d want FWD. The lack of driveshaft and rear axle means larger trunk and more room in the cabin, two things these people will care about more than drive type.
![]() 10/10/2015 at 00:12 |
|
Really? Is that why the only decent selling large luxury sedans are RWD based?
Because I don’t know if you’ve seen A8, XTS, MKS, S80, and RLX sales figures, but it seems like buyers who can literally afford just about any car are more discriminating than you give them credit for.
![]() 10/10/2015 at 00:22 |
|
You see, people in the market for a flashy “look-at-how-rich-i-am” luxury sedan would get a Mercedes-Benz S-class or BMW 7-series, because people know what those are.
Notice how the S-class has to be stretched to incredulous lengths to have a spacious cabin.
The Mercedes-Maybach S600 is 8 inches longer than the LWB S-class, which is already 206.5 inches long. If more space can be found in a smaller package, drive wheels be damned.

Nope. Not how it works anymore. Not with FWD cars that have AWD as an option, which essentially means they have to be engineered with the space efficiency of a RWD car anyway.
2015 Audi A8 (SWB): 202.2” overall length / 115 cu ft interior volume
2015 BMW 740i (SWB): 200.0”/121 cu ft
2015 Chevrolet Impala: 201.3”/124 cu ft
2015 Chrysler 300: 198.6”/123 cu ft
The shortest car in this group (Chrysler 300) is RWD based and has the 2nd best total interior volume. It’s got one cubic foot more interior space than the Impala, but 2 less in the trunk, due to its shorter rear overhang.
The longest car in this group (Audi A8) is FWD based and has - by far - the smallest interior volume.
And people who buy this class of car, but don’t care about badges? There aren’t very many. Which is why sales of FWD-based large luxury sedans have all but dried up.
![]() 10/10/2015 at 01:53 |
|
Also, to compare more directly:
Audi A8L: 207.4” overall length / 122 cu ft interior volume
Mercedes-Benz S550: 206.5” overall length / 124 cu ft interior volume
Once again, the shorter car is RWD and has more interior volume.

205 and 306 most certainly.
(I own both, so I might be biased)

I like the way you think. Excluding the Ford and maybe the MG I’d own (or already own) all of them. The MG sounds like a blast, but I’m not that brave.
